History and ethos
The Edgewater Woodvale Junior Football Club (EWJFC) was established in 1989 to provide children in Edgewater and Woodvale the opportunity to play Australia Rules Football within a close-knit community. At the time, Edgewater was the northern most metropolitan suburb, with the majority of Joondalup still bushland! Over 25 years later, we are still regarded as a family friendly and supportive club with a strong membership and player base within the West Perth Football District.
The EWJFC has a dedicated and experienced committee, comprised of parents across the Auskick, Modified and Open competitions. This committee supports almost 200 players, their parents, our Coaches and Managers and other game day volunteers.
While everyone loves to win, EWJFC’s philosophy is also one of inclusivity, sportsmanship and player development – which we foster from Auskick (pre-primary to Year 2), develop through Modified Rules (Year 3 to Year 7) and maintain throughout Open Rules (Year 8 to Year 12).
The club participates in the West Perth Talent identification program and annual state Development Squads. We welcome new players into all age groups, regardless of background, gender, experience or ability and fundamentally believe that every child should have the opportunity to play this wonderful sport.
Our most recent recruit to the AFL is Blake Acres (Saint Kilda’s number 19 pick in the 2013 draft). Blake grew up playing for EWJFC before being recruited to the West Perth Falcons, where we continue to have a number of EWJFC boys furthering their playing careers.
